Where are we headed?
OD practitioners come in two basic varieties: those who are employed and work from the inside and those that consult from the outside.
On Long Island, the land of small to mid-market sized companies (peppered with a few handfuls of 1,000 plus employee organizations),
the OD people are mostly of the outside consulting variety offering services such as: strategic planning, talent management, succession
planning, conflict/ issue resolution, team building, workplace surveys, diagnostics and more.
Once, not all that long ago, these practices and services lived exclusively in the world of big business but fortunately, best practices
havetrickled down, albeit with modification, and are now available to companies of all sizes. And quite frankly, that is very exciting for all of us.
We face an endless supply of people challenges in running our businesses. Many of these challenges are solved with common sense
or hard won experience but over the years I have come to rely more and more on the knowledge of experienced OD practitioners whose
collective knowledge has direct application for all of us.
To me, ODNLI is about improving workplace effectiveness and performance. We do this by using best practices and making them
accessible to businesses of all sizes right here in our own backyards. If you share these goals and values then I invite you to join us
on this journey.
If you are not already a member of ODNLI then join today. It is an inexpensive and powerful experience focused on learning and networking.
If you are a member then I encourage you to join a committee and get more involved. For 2010-2011, we will be reaching out to the business
community at large to bring senior leadership from small to mid-market businesses to our meetings. We are committed to being more inclusive
in our upcoming programs. Please, we encourage you to invite and bring guests to our meetings and offer suggestions to help us grow.
Speak with Randi Busse our director of membership at
randi@workdevgroup.com or any of our Board Members or email me at david@executive-confidential.com.
We want your intellectual capital, your energy and your participation. We want you!
Best regards, David O. Schwartz
